Jimdo

This is the application we are going to use to create our website --our presence online

help page from jimdo

list of applications we are going to use for the class

Pbwiki pages now called Pbworks pages are organized to facilitate  Collaborative work,

collaborative pages   this is a very good app. for education... That's why I decided to use it for our class.

Flickr  is  one of the most well know apps. for photo sharing  (bought by Yahoo)

photosharing              We will use Flickr to host the photos you are taking during the class

    website

If you don't have any program like photoshop to prepare your images you will love picnik  (for

Online photo editing   for free and online) which will give you the possibility to manipulate your images and, more importantly, to prepare

your images for posting them online. Flickr bought the company recently, so now you can use it when on Flickr.

Skype is a very successfull application that gives you the possibilty to chat and to have a live video conversation for free.

live chat/video conversations  The conversations in the chat room are archived and can be read asynchronously -- the videos conversations

website                       are always live and are nor saved and limited to one user to another. Very useful app. to use to teach, we can exchange

links and heavy files, and I can show my screen to a student in order to teach them how to use/do something.

Seesmic is my Favorite application! I think it's the future of Online communication, but it's still in its infancy, a little

asynchronous video conversations  bit more then a year old.

website                              What is seesmic? basically it gives you the possibility to have a video conversation through the use of a

webcam with other users.  Nothing is live here but instead asynchronous ( like emails

which is better for communications) You can engage conversations with lot of people at once all over the world.

I intend to use it semi privately with my students to facilitate our communication. The nice thing is that you can embed

a seesmic "widget" within the wiki or your blog and visitors can record their video responses right from the widget

-- you need to be a member of seesmic which is open to anyone who signs up.

Tokbox also is a live video conversation (I installed it on my page if you want to talk to me here) You can use it to send

live video/videos mail   video by mail to anyone even if they don't use the application. You can create a video conference with up to 6-10

people. I tested it! it's not the best but considering it's free....

Twitter, which I have been using for two years, is finally becoming mainstream. It's amazing to see now how many people know twitter.

micro blogging                 it's  a micro blogging  platform  where you are limited to only 140 characteres to communicate with people that

website                             decide to follow you. You can post from your computer but also from your mobile etc... It's is becoming the new way to blog

                                        -instant communication!

Everybody knows what YouTube is! bought by Google a few years ago for $ 1.6 billions....  Every minute 20 hours of videos

video sharing                    are uploaded to YouTube!
