~GROUP PROJECT~

by Alexis Woods

GOAL:  To inform prospective students about the CCCC Art Department using content based on current student/faculty experience.

EXECUTION:  I will use a combination of photographs, video footage, and interviews with students and faculty.  I will get this content from my digital photography taught by Elizabeth Hathon and my mosaics class taught by James Bowen (who has already given me permission), and I will also accompany my classmate Sam Holmstock to cover a Middle Eastern Dance Class.  We are meeting at 4:30pm in the Tilden Lobby to cover the last hour of the class, and hopefully interview some students after class.  Sam will also be working with the class drummer's so I will cover that as well.

I plan to collect photographs I like that my fellow photography students have tooken, and take photographs of my fellow students mosaic art as well as visit and photograph a huge mosaic mural done on the Cape by James Bowen and students on a bike path bridge.  I will also photograph and film the dancers and the students in their studio/theater atmosphere.  In each of these three classes I will interview as many students that will allow me to, and film their answers.  My interview questions will be based on their experience with the CCCC Art Department.

I will also interview my brother who is a current art major, and possibly some of my friends who have taken art classes at CCCC in the recent past, as well as give input stemming from my own experience .

This is what I posted on the CCCC group: Hello CCCC students and faculty!  My video blogging class is working to promote the Art Department for an open house on November 9th and we need your help!  We are around campus taking photographs and filming!  A way you can help us is by shooting an email to alexisaw@hotmail.com and just telling us a little bit about your experience with the Art Department.  What classes you have taken, and what you really loved about them (or hated)!  A few minutes of your time to do this would be so awesome!  Don't forget to leave your name :) Your comments might be chosen to end up on a public blog that can be accessed using the website on the open house brochures!  Thank you and enjoy the fall semester!!!

I am thinking it may have been better if I just posted something like "What has been your experience with the Art Department?" haha, more people would bother reading it and answer it on a whim...

INTERVIEW QUESTION IDEAS:

1.) What has your experience with the art department been like?

2.)  What was your favorite art class?  Why?

3.)  What do you like about the art department?

4.)  What is your major?

Today I took some pictures in my mosaics class, and I interviewed three girls.  People were shy about the interviews.  I find that the more peppy and outgoing someone else is, the more that I am.  One of the girls was a student that took the class twice a couple of years ago, and just came by to visit and drop off some broken mirror.  She really liked the class so she hung out awhile.  Unfortunately, I did not get the first part of her speaking on film, so what she is saying might not make much sense.  I haven't watched it yet.  I got a few photographs of the whole class in the studio working, and some individual ones of some finished work.  It was the perfect day because everyone had their finished project done and ready for critique!  I will upload the photos to flicker, and post a link here later on today.

Here is a sample of how I could use my video's...it's just my first two interviews.  The picture behind the opening title will be changed...I will have to take a picture of campus myself...there aren't any pictures of our school online when I google images.  And the music is just there, not sure if I like it or any music at all....just something to show you...enjoy!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nE10qPoF98s

I hit my limit on flickr, but I was able to get two photo's up...http://www.flickr.com/photos/30250001@N05/

Yesterday I met with Sam and filmed/photographed the Middle Eastern Dance Class, as well as a little bit of Sam working with the drummers.  After class I got fed up and went straight to the store and bought a light weight tripod.  A lot of my pictures were blurry due to the low lighting and movement of the dancers.  A tripod would have made them so much better!  A day late but hey, we live and we learn!  Regardless I did get some nice shots.  After the class we interviewed two of the students.  I used both camera's to film Sam give the interviews.  I started out with an establishing shot, then kept one camera on each face during the interview, and then ended it with a reestablishing shot.  So hopefully I can cut together something a little more interesting.  I also got an interview from a girl that started talking to me because I was taking pictures.

Today I took pictures around campus for my digital photography class assignment where we had to make a college brochure.  I got some good pictures of class mates and various things in the art building such as students in the gallery and building a set.  I also had to do portraits of a class mate, so I had her take her school books outside and look like she was studying, I got some good shots.  Next time I am on campus I am going to film a few seconds at each of a few points on campus to play around with.
